Duluth Public School District includes 10 elementary schools serving about 3,588 students, most of them in PK–5 grades, with Lakewood Elementary and Lowell Elementary Spanish Immersion running K–5. Enrollment ranges from 245 students at Stowe Elementary to 510 at Lester Park Elementary. The district overall is rated 3 stars, ranking 170 of 458 (63rd percentile), but that single rating hides a wide spread: individual schools sit anywhere from the 93rd to the 15th percentile.

Five schools stand out. Lakewood Elementary is the most consistent, holding 5 stars in all three years shown, with the highest Reading proficiency (72.2%) and 69.9% in Math. Lester Park Elementary, the largest school, is also 5 stars and leads in 5th grade Reading (78.4%). Homecroft Elementary has the highest Math (70.9%), Lowell Elementary Spanish Immersion has the top Science score (55.6%) and the lowest free/reduced lunch rate (14.29%), and Congdon Elementary remains strong at 4 stars, though it has cooled from 5 stars in 2023–2024. The top five schools average about 68% in Math and 66% in Reading, versus roughly 28% and 37% for the three lowest-ranked schools.

At the other end, Stowe Elementary has the lowest Math (24.8%) and Reading (29.4%) proficiency, Laura MacArthur Elementary has the lowest Science (7.1%), and Myers-Wilkins Elementary has the highest poverty indicator (84.8% free/reduced lunch). Science is the weakest subject across the district and the most uneven, with school results spanning a 48.5-point gap. There is encouragement: Myers-Wilkins Elementary and Laura MacArthur Elementary both improved their rank percentiles and test scores from the prior year, and Lowell Elementary moved from 2 stars to 3. Still, the elementary experience varies sharply depending on which Duluth school a child attends.
