Summary

Glenn Dale Elementary is a K-5 school in Glenn Dale, MD, serving 493 students within the Prince George's County Public Schools district, where 91.89% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch, indicating a high-poverty community.

Glenn Dale Elementary is currently facing significant academic challenges, with a state ranking that has declined from the 58th percentile in 2016-2017 to the 7th percentile in 2025-2026. Its proficiency rates are critically low: only 8.7% of students are proficient in mathematics and 22.6% in English Language Arts. These scores are the lowest among nearby schools—for example, Seabrook Elementary has 24.8% math proficiency and 37.5% ELA proficiency, while High Bridge Elementary achieves 19.3% and 46.2%, respectively. Chronic absenteeism affects 25.2% of students, which is better than some peers like James McHenry Elementary (31.5%) but worse than Phyllis E. Williams Elementary (18.0%).

A striking contrast exists within the same building: Robert Goddard Montessori, a magnet school sharing the campus, serves a much lower-poverty population (38.15% free/reduced lunch) and achieves 76.4% ELA proficiency. Despite Glenn Dale spending the highest amount per student ($23,962) among its comparison group, it achieves the lowest outcomes, suggesting challenges beyond funding. However, historical data from 2020-2021 shows the school was once effective for its core subgroups, ranking in the 62nd percentile for African American students and 59th for low-income students, indicating that improvement is possible with strategic intervention.

Open Quote I have been very disatified with the school and the principal. My son is in the second grade class and I have never been notified when he is having a test at school and a textbook to study for these test never come home. After complaining I was given a website where my son's textbook could be found, but still no textbook has been sent home. My son was given a math test to see how well is he doing in his class and I was never informed of this test, neither was I ever given the results. WHen I asked for the results I was told that he scored basic, of course I have no idea what this means and Would like to know how I can help him and what he did weak in so that I can help him at home. I had to meeting with the principal and the teachers; the prinicipal told me that she would send a copy of the results home with my son.. that was at the beginning of February. I have yet to receive it and my son was given another state test (math) since then that I could not get him prepared for because again, I was not informed and no results have come home.
I am looking forward to the school year being over so that I can transfer into a better school. Close Quote
