The school also has a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 6.6%, while nearby schools like Springhill Lake Elementary have rates as high as 42.0%.

Dora Kennedy's success is not simply a matter of higher spending, as some lower-performing schools in the area spend more per student. Instead, its specialized French immersion curriculum and magnet program attract motivated families from across a wider area, creating a stable, high-achieving school culture. The school has consistently ranked in the top 20-25% of Maryland elementary schools for nearly a decade, and it has earned exceptional ratings for its performance with African American students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, suggesting its model is effective at closing achievement gaps. This creates a stark contrast with schools just a mile away, like Springhill Lake Elementary, which ranks in the bottom 5% of the state, highlighting how school choice can create vastly different educational realities within the same community.

Open Quote Very disappointed in my childs experience in this school. The leadership has been questionable in their approach to addressing classroom issues. My child was devastated by the experiences in class and with the administration. Not very good at dealing with students with disabilities either. Close Quote
