Summary

Ruppel Academie Francaise is a public elementary school in Gretna, LA, serving 362 students in grades PK-8 within the Jefferson Parish school district, and it consistently earns a 5-star rating, ranking 15th out of 690 elementary schools in Louisiana (98th percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year.

This school stands out dramatically from its neighbors. While nearby schools like Terrytown Elementary School (16th percentile) and William Hart Elementary School (19th percentile) struggle to meet state averages, Ruppel achieves exceptional academic proficiency. For the 2025-2026 school year, the school posted a 93% proficiency rate in Mathematics and a 92% proficiency rate in Social Studies—scores that are roughly 40 percentage points higher than the district average. Even more impressive, Ruppel achieved 100% proficiency in 4th, 6th, and 7th Grade Math, as well as 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade English Language Arts. The school also has a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 5.5%, compared to the district average of 21.5% and rates of nearly 30% at nearby schools like McDonogh 26/Homedale Elementary School.

Ruppel’s success is not limited to a specific group of students; it excels across all subgroups, ranking in the 95th percentile or higher for low socio-economic status students, African American students, and White students. This is particularly noteworthy given that the percentage of students eligible for free/reduced lunch has nearly doubled in two years, from 29% to 60.5%, yet the school has maintained its elite performance. The only nearby school that rivals Ruppel is Gretna No. 2 Academy for Advanced Studies, ranked 5th in the state, but Ruppel serves a wider grade range and a more economically diverse student body. Even compared to the International School of Louisiana (78th percentile), another language-focused school, Ruppel outperforms it in every core subject, demonstrating that its French-language program is paired with outstanding overall instruction.

Open Quote This school is Horrible the principal is racist. My daughter is black and is a straight A student she had to test to get in Ruppel and she got in with flying colors. It’s a-lot of bullying that takes place at Ruppel and all the principal do is talk down to you and tell you your child is not getting bullied. I had to take my daughter out of the school and put her in a C school because I couldn’t take it anymore. I reported her to Jefferson Parish for being racist and calling my daughter the black girl and nothing was done about it. Her boss is her friend and all the teachers at Ruppel is under the principal spell and you can tell they’re afraid of her. It’s so sad I had to remove my daughter from a school she worked so hard to get into. Me and my daughter was discriminated against at this school and it’s a hurting feeling that in this day and age racism is still going on and still black people have to go through this and that an adult will treat a child and her mother bad because the color of their skin. Jefferson Parish have to do better I have reached out to the superintendent and multiple other people and no reply to my email. Do better Jefferson Parish Close Quote
