Southern Elementary School serves 462 students in kindergarten through grade 5 in Georgetown, in Scott County. Fifth grade is a particular concern: its math result was 21% and its reading result 33%, both the lowest among nearby schools.

Results over time are mixed: science improved 10 points from 2023–24 to 2025–26, while social studies fell 18 points from 2022–23, and the latest writing result reversed earlier gains. Across grades 3–5, math declined from an average of 32% to 27%, and reading from 36% to 33%; their gaps with state results generally widened.
