Summary:

Schools in ZIP code 40511 include nine schools—four elementary, two middle and three high schools—serving families primarily in Fayette County, with Future Forward Education & Career Center in Franklin County. The clearest overall pattern is that results vary substantially by school and grade: elementary scores span 49 percentage points in both Grade 4 reading and Grade 5 editing and mechanics.

Among elementary schools, Sandersville Elementary led in math in Grades 3–5, scoring 58%, 54% and 64%, respectively; it was also strong in several other subjects. Rise STEM Academy for Girls led elementary reading in Grades 3 and 4, with 70% and 79%, and Grade 5 writing, with 59%. At the other end, Russell Cave Elementary School scored 21% in Grade 5 math and 17% in editing and mechanics; Coventry Oak Elementary scored 14% in Grade 5 writing. In middle school, Leestown exceeded Winburn in every reported comparison, by 6 to 20 points; Winburn was below state results in every reported subject and grade. STEAM Academy scored above the state in five of six reported high-school subjects. Results for the two very small alternative high schools and some Russell Cave measures are suppressed, so comparisons are limited to available scores.

Recent changes were mixed across schools: across 62 matched results, school scores rose by an average of 2 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while the average state result was essentially unchanged; the average school-to-state gap improved by about 2 points. Coventry Oak’s matched results rose by an average of 11 points, while Leestown’s fell by 7. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings were 82nd percentile for Sandersville and Rise, compared with 7th for Russell Cave, 15th for Winburn and 48th for Leestown. Context figures do not neatly predict results: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 41% at Sandersville and 54% at Rise, while Coventry Oak reported 66% and Russell Cave 71%. Student-teacher ratios also differed: Rise was 9.6, Russell Cave 11.3, Leestown 14.4 and STEAM 20.9.
