Spring Hill

The Spring Hill area has 11 schools: six elementary, three middle, and two high schools, including two virtual schools. Across the schools, average proficiency is above the state in all three subjects—by 13 percentage points in ELA, 13 in math, and 17 in science—but the gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring schools reaches 42 points in ELA, 65 in math, and 52 in science. The central finding for families is that area averages conceal sharply different results from one school to another.

Several elementary schools lead the all-grade results: Prairie Creek Elementary scored 76% in ELA, 30 percentage points above the state; Timber Sage Elementary School scored 76% in math, 35 points above; and Dayton Creek Elementary School scored 76% in science, 37 points above. SchoolDigger placed Prairie Creek and Timber Sage in the 96th statewide percentile among elementary schools, and Spring Hill High School in the 93rd percentile among high schools. At the other end, Kansas Virtual Academy (KSVA) had 34% ELA and 24% science proficiency, while Insight School of Kansas had 11% in math. Those virtual-school results were 12 to 30 percentage points below the state, depending on the subject.

Recent results are mixed: average ELA was nearly unchanged, while math and science each rose about 2 percentage points among schools with scores in both years. Individual schools moved more sharply: Spring Hill High’s ELA rose 13 points, while science fell 18 points at Wolf Creek Elementary School and 14 points at Timber Sage. SchoolDigger’s ranking for Spring Hill Middle School climbed from the 69th to the 86th percentile, alongside gains of 7 points in ELA, 13 in math, and 12 in science. Attendance is a separate consideration: chronic absenteeism was 23% at Spring Hill High and 19% at Spring Hill Middle, compared with 18% statewide. The virtual schools also had the highest student–teacher ratios—33.6 at Insight and 32.4 at KSVA—while Spring Hill Middle had the lowest, at 10.2.
