Louisburg

Louisburg has five schools: two elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools, serving grades PK–12, including a virtual program for grades 6–12. Three schools have reported test results: Broadmoor Elementary, Louisburg Middle and Louisburg High. Across those schools, average proficiency was 63% in English language arts, 58% in math and 56% in science, compared with state results of 46%, 41% and 38%. The clearest area-wide finding is that all three tested schools outperformed the state in every reported subject.

Broadmoor leads in English language arts and math, with 67% and 69% proficient; it topped the next school by 4 percentage points in English language arts and 12 points in math. Louisburg Middle leads in science at 66%, 7 points ahead of the next school. Louisburg High has the lowest all-grade result in each subject—59% in English language arts, 48% in math and 45% in science—and trails the other two schools’ average by 6, 15 and 18 points, respectively. Still, its results are above state figures. SchoolDigger ranked the middle school 32nd of 368 statewide, Broadmoor 69th of 657 and the high school 40th of 340.

Recent scores show some declines, especially in math: Louisburg High fell 9 percentage points in math, while its lead over the state narrowed by 12 points. Across the three tested schools, the average lead over the state narrowed from 20 to 17 points in English language arts and from 24 to 17 points in math. SchoolDigger rankings also shifted over time: the middle school moved from 22nd to 32nd and the high school from 16th to 40th, while Broadmoor ended 69th, close to its earlier 69th-place ranking. Ratios range from 14.3 students per teacher at the high school to 16.4 at Broadmoor; lunch-program rates are 15% and 23%, respectively, and these figures do not explain results. The high school’s 95% graduation rate is a notable strength; the virtual program’s reported rate is 25%. Rockville Elementary serves PK–2, and the virtual program has no test-score results listed.
