Summary

Northview Middle School is a 1,019-student school serving grades 6–8 in MSD Washington Township on Indianapolis's north side, and it is the largest of the district's three middle schools. Its 2025–2026 ILEARN proficiency rates are 47.32% in English Language Arts, 42.57% in Math, and 38.10% in Science, placing it 139th of 486 Indiana middle schools (71st percentile, 4 stars) — well above its own district's overall standing.

The headline story is improvement. Northview climbed from the 28th percentile in 2021–22 to the 71st in 2025–26 and earned 4 stars for the first time in the available record. Math shows the same arc: a 12.5-point gap to the district in 2022–23 has closed to near-parity, a roughly 25-point gain in three years. Against Eastwood Middle School, Northview matches it exactly in ELA (47.3) despite a higher poverty rate and lower per-pupil spending — the strongest evidence of real instructional improvement. It also posts the top ELA and Math scores of any high-poverty school in its comparison group, ahead of Avondale Meadows Middle School, Broad Ripple Middle School - an IB World School, New Augusta Public Academy - North, and district peer Westlane Middle School.

There are real caveats. Chronic absenteeism is 19.3%, above the district (16.4%) and state (16.7%), and rising. Science (38.10%) is below both district and state and fell 6.4 points in a year; 6th-grade Math and Science are the only grade-level results below state, while 7th grade is the school's engine. The student-teacher ratio has climbed 42% in two years, to 16.1 — the highest of the three Washington Township middle schools. Free/reduced-lunch eligibility also fell about 22 points over two years, so some of the gain reflects a changing student population. Still, results trail affluent suburban schools like Creekside Middle School in Carmel Clay Schools, which spend thousands less per student.

i go to Northview Middle School and it is THE BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!all my teachers are awesome and northview is greta with disipline. We even won a prize for best school to watch! there were only four given out in indiana and three of them went to Washington Township!! northview has an orchestra in seventh and eighth grade with the full orchestra.only washington township who does!they played the other night and they did AWESOME!!!!!!! my son enjoys attending Northview. This is his third year. Staff have done a good job matching classes to his academic level, moving him up as needed. The school is clean and safe. Close Quote
