Summary

Morningside Elementary School is a PK–5 public school in Twin Falls, ID, serving 404 students in the Twin Falls District. The school serves a high-poverty population, with roughly 60% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. Its statewide ranking has been volatile in recent years: after climbing to the 43rd percentile in 2024–2025, the school dropped to the 25th percentile (1 star) in 2025–2026. Over the past decade, Morningside's ranking has ranged from a high of the 60th percentile in 2015–2016 to a low of the 16th percentile in 2021–2022.

The most striking feature of Morningside's academic profile is a large gap between math and reading. In 2025–2026, math proficiency was 44.3%—above the district average (37.4%) and essentially tied with the state (43.1%). That puts Morningside's math scores in the same neighborhood as Sawtooth Elementary School (45.3%) and well above lower-performing local schools like I B Perrine Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Oregon Trail Elementary School, and Harrison Elementary School, where math proficiency ranges from 16% to 25%. English Language Arts is a different story: only 38.4% of students are proficient, roughly 16 points below the state average. In reading, Morningside is much closer to the low-performing cluster (22%–32%) than to Rock Creek Elementary (59.4%) or Sawtooth (55.1%). The weakness is most pronounced in 3rd grade (35%) and 4th grade (36.7%), while 5th grade (43.5%) is closer to the district average.

Two other findings stand out. Chronic absenteeism has fallen dramatically, from 35.0% in 2021–2022 to 15.4% in 2025–2026, now below the district average (18.1%). This is a significant success for a high-poverty school. At the same time, Morningside spends more per student ($8,076) and has a lower student–teacher ratio (14.9) than higher-performing neighbors like Rock Creek ($5,958; 18.2) and Pillar Falls Elementary ($6,658; 20.8), yet the reading gap persists. State subgroup data also shows uneven results: female students rank in the 20th percentile statewide—the school's lowest subgroup ranking—well below male students (36th percentile). The school's main challenge is applying its successful math strategies to literacy, ensuring all students, especially girls, benefit.
