Bonneville Joint District serves roughly 13,577 students across 26 schools in Idaho, spanning 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 7 high schools, and 1 alternative school, and it currently ranks 52nd out of 101 Idaho districts overall. Its clearest strength is elementary education. Rimrock Elementary leads the district with 65.2% math and 71.1% ELA proficiency, placing it in the 88th percentile statewide, and it also has the lowest chronic absenteeism among traditional schools at 7.9%. Woodland Hills Elementary (84th percentile), Fairview Elementary School (79th percentile), Discovery Elementary School (75th percentile), and Iona Elementary School (72nd percentile) also finish in the top 30% of Idaho elementary schools. Fairview is especially notable for achieving top-tier scores despite a 38.8% free/reduced lunch rate, showing that poverty does not determine outcomes.

Middle schools are average at best. Black Canyon Middle School is the strongest, sitting in the 51st percentile after climbing from the 24th percentile in just two years, while Sandcreek Middle School (41st percentile) and Rocky Mountain Middle School (29th percentile) trail behind. All three schools show a steep 8th-grade drop in both math and ELA proficiency. High schools are the district's biggest concern. Only Hillcrest High School ranks above the state midpoint (57th percentile, 3 stars), with End-of-Course scores at or above state averages in math, science, and ELA. Thunder Ridge High School (20th percentile) and Bonneville High School (13th percentile) have declined sharply in recent years, with math proficiency around 17–22%.

Attendance tracks achievement closely. Praxium Mastery Academy, a small alternative school, reports extraordinary proficiency (87.1% math, 95.9% ELA) with just 5.3% chronic absenteeism, though its size warrants caution. Conversely, Lincoln High School has 44.7% chronic absenteeism and the district's lowest ELA proficiency. District-wide chronic absenteeism is 13.4%, and schools like Hillview Elementary School and Falls Valley Elementary School exceed 21%. The district's biggest opportunities are reducing absenteeism at struggling schools, investigating the 8th-grade academic slide, and understanding why its strong elementary feeders are not translating into stronger high school results.
