Oakland Elementary School is a public elementary school located in McDonough, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 924 students. The school is part of the Henry County School District, which is ranked 143 out of 206 districts in Georgia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Over the past 10 years, Oakland Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Georgia elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of that period.

The data shows that Oakland Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the Henry County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessment tests for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 26.3% of 3rd graders, 15.2% of 4th graders, and 21% of 5th graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 34.9%, 39.3%, and 43% at the state level, respectively. Additionally, Oakland Elementary has very high rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, reaching almost 84% in the 2023-2024 school year, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools.

Despite the higher spending per student at Oakland Elementary, ranging from $10,180 to $11,565, the school's academic performance remains poor. This suggests that the school may not be effectively allocating its resources to address the specific needs of its student population. When comparing Oakland Elementary to the nearby schools in the same district, it becomes clear that Oakland is an outlier in terms of academic performance and other key metrics, highlighting the need for the district to closely examine the factors contributing to the school's struggles and implement targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote Poor leadership and action on part of the administrators. Teachers are very hostile with kids based on personally seeing it during a few lunch visits. Kids bully other kids with no resolution or communication to parents. No one cares in this school. The very few caring teachers are outweighed by the bad. Believe everything you hear. I am sorry if your child has to attend here. It makes you want to move out of your home just to be in a different school. Close Quote
