Ferguson is a school on a clear upward trajectory. After earning a 1-star rating in 2021-2022, the school has climbed to a 2-star rating, with its state percentile improving from the 27th to the 44th percentile over four years. One of the most striking strengths is the school's exceptional performance with African American students, who rank in the 89th percentile statewide—placing Ferguson among the top 11% of Georgia schools for this subgroup. The school also shows above-average effectiveness with English Language Learners, ranking in the 60th percentile. Chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically from 28.6% to 14.5% in three years, now better than both the district (15.0%) and state (17.7%) averages. In math, proficiency rates range from 36.6% in 5th grade to 46.5% in 4th grade, with notable year-over-year gains in 3rd and 5th grades. Science proficiency improved to 33.3% but still trails the district average by about 21 points, suggesting an area for continued focus.

Compared to nearby schools, Ferguson holds its own in several respects. It outperforms Meadowcreek Elementary by 6-10 percentage points across most subjects despite Meadowcreek having a higher poverty rate. Against Corley Elementary, the closest school at just one mile away, Ferguson actually surpasses Corley in 4th grade math (46.5% vs. 43.3%) and is competitive in 5th grade math. The school invests heavily in staffing with a favorable 11.6:1 student-teacher ratio and spends $16,048 per student—higher than several nearby schools. While Ferguson still trails higher-performing schools like Mason Elementary, those schools serve significantly more affluent populations. With rising test scores, improved attendance, and standout subgroup results, Ferguson appears to be building momentum that could continue in the years ahead.

Open Quote Gwinnett has invested a lot into its schools. This school has some issues with discipline. The makeup of the school is mostly Blacks and Hispanics, vastly minority. Multicultural with some language barriers. Discipline starts at home....(parents)not the teachers to discipline your child. Lots of fighting. Teachers are having to address multiples issues which interrupts the learning time of others. Teachers are prepared with lesson plans but it seem some are stressed just dealing with all the interruption that continue on a daily basis. Some parents are just ghetto. Don't get involve with their child's education and just don't have no clue what's going on. The school gives out lots of important information for students to take home to parents and most of the literature doesn't get read or make it home for that matter. The school has behavior programs but some of the students are just very loud and not attentive. You have your all-star basketball and football wannabes. Plus your rap artist not knowing that in order to succeed you need an education. If you truly want to be something when you grow up, you need an education. There needs to be strong parent involvement for this school be a great school. Teacher and administrators can only do so much because parents are quick to point a finger to blame teachers than to see their faults in raising their children. Close Quote
