Open Quote My daughter graduated from kindergarten last year we moved to a higher performance school and came to find out my daughter did not recognize half the alphabet and did not know any colors. She is in first grade now with an "a" reading level as this school pushed her through to make time to teach the ESOL kids. Rediculous. Close Quote

Open Quote Although the school has an average rating, I don't agree that this rating truly reflects what a good school this is. We receive constant communication from the school inviting us to the many events taking place during the school day and in the evenings. We receive daily reports from the teacher about our child's behavior, always constructive, supportive and professional. The staff is helpful and supportive. My child's Reading progress has excelled in Kindergarten as a result of the teaching, reading program and tools they use. In 6 months, he went from sounding out letters to reading multi-word sentences. Chesney has turned out to be a well kept secret! Close Quote

Open Quote One of the downfalls of this school is that it isn't a family oriented school. Both the school and the teachers should also focus on ways to gain parental involvement in both the classes and the school. Each classroom should have a room parent who communicates with both the teacher and the school to identify the school's/classroom's weekly necessities (volunteering in classroom, libraries, school functions, etc...). The room parent will then contact the parents in their child's classroom to seek assistance whether it's for 2 hours volunteering or a small donation for a classroom activity such as a play or something.

I truly believe that once you gain more parental involvement and presence at the schools on a daily basis, the students will put forth their best effort allowing the schools to operate accordingly to better educate our children.

Volunteering a couple of hours a month can go a long way in your child's education, social skills, etc.... Parental support at home and at school is the key. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
