Summary

Bethesda Elementary School in Lawrenceville, GA, serves approximately 1,083 students in Pre-K through 5th grade within the Gwinnett County School District, holding a 3-star rating and ranking 600th out of 1,219 elementary schools statewide (51st percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year.

Bethesda stands out as a solid mid-range choice among its immediate neighbors, outperforming several nearby schools including Cedar Hill Elementary School, Hopkins Elementary School, Minor Elementary School, Ferguson Elementary School, Baggett Elementary School, and Alford Elementary. However, it trails significantly behind Gwin Oaks Elementary School (ranked 100th, 92nd percentile) and Knight Elementary School (ranked 385th, 68th percentile). One of Bethesda's most notable strengths is its exceptional performance with African American students, ranking 130th out of 828 schools statewide (84th percentile) with a 4-star rating—a remarkable achievement. The school also maintains lower chronic absenteeism (13.2%) than both the district (15.0%) and state (17.7%) averages, and its 5th grade science proficiency rate of 46.0% exceeds the state average of 44.2%, making science its strongest subject relative to state benchmarks.

Bethesda's mathematics performance shows promise but lags district averages by 11-14 percentage points across grades 3-5, though it remains competitive with most nearby schools. The school has been on a gradual upward trajectory since the pandemic, improving from a 2-star rating in 2020-2021 to its current 3-star status, though it has not yet returned to its pre-pandemic peak of a 4-star rating in 2017-2018. The school spends $14,932 per student—more than Gwin Oaks ($12,878) yet achieves lower outcomes, raising questions about resource allocation. There is also a notable gender disparity, with male students ranking at the 57th percentile compared to female students at the 46th percentile. While the school serves a predominantly low-income population (82% free/reduced lunch), its steady improvement in attendance and science scores suggests a positive direction for families considering this school.

Open Quote My son has attended Bethesda for the last 4 years and I have nothing but great things to say. As soon as you walk through the door everyone you talk to is friendly and willing to help. I was not asked to write this but felt that I should. The DSL program is also great. Look it up. Thank you FOR ALL YOU DO! Close Quote

Open Quote BE WARNED! The principal is very hands off and nonchalant as it relates to instruction and discipline. Bullies control the building, teachers' hands are tied, and administrators are "working on things". My daughter has been stabbed, punched, and spat on since September, but they are "working on it."
