Roger Sherman School is an elementary school in Meriden, CT, serving 457 students in grades PK–5 as part of the Meriden School District. The school has one of the clearest improvement trajectories in the area, climbing from a 1-star rating at the 14th–15th percentile a decade ago to a 3-star rating at the 53rd percentile statewide in 2025–2026. Serving a student population where 84.5% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, the school now outperforms Connecticut state averages in both reading and math.

In 2025–2026, Roger Sherman's reading proficiency reached 54.6%, above the state's 50.6%, while math proficiency hit 57.2% versus 50.0% statewide. The school is especially effective for its Hispanic students, ranking in the 93rd percentile statewide for that subgroup (5 stars) — well above the school's overall standing. Science is also a relative weakness at 44.8% proficiency. While Roger Sherman outperforms some nearby schools like Casimir Pulaski and Hanover, it still trails the strongest Meriden peers — Israel Putnam posts 64.9% reading and 66.2% math proficiency with a similar poverty rate and comparable per-pupil spending, offering a useful in-district benchmark for continued growth.
