Summary:

ZIP code 93033 has eight K–5 elementary schools: four in Hueneme Elementary, three in Ocean View, and one in Oxnard. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was 25% in English language arts (ELA), 20% in math, and 16% in science, compared with state benchmarks of 49%, 38%, and 36%. That puts the school averages about 24 points below the state in ELA, 19 in math, and 20 in science. The most important finding is that every school is below the state benchmark in all three all-grades subjects.

Laguna Vista leads in ELA at 35% and math at 29%; its math result is 7 points above the average of the other seven schools. Fred L. Williams leads in science at 26%, 12 points above the other schools’ average, and is close to Laguna Vista in ELA. At the other end, Art Haycox is lowest in all three subjects, at 9% ELA, 6% math, and 4% science. One grade-level exception is Mar Vista third-grade math: 48%, compared with the state’s 47% for that grade. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 statewide rankings also put Laguna Vista at the 30th percentile, Mar Vista at the 28th, and Fred L. Williams at the 25th.

Recent changes are mixed: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the schools’ average ELA result rose 2 points, math rose 1, and science increased by less than 1 point. The state advanced 3 points in science, so the average school-to-state science gap widened from 17 to 20 points; the ELA gap narrowed from 25 to 24 points. SchoolDigger rankings over three years rose from the 12th to 25th percentile for Fred L. Williams and from the 22nd to 28th for Mar Vista, while Tierra Vista fell from the 22nd to 12th. Student-teacher ratios range from 20.0 at Laguna Vista to 23.8 at Tierra Vista. All schools report the same low-income measure, free/reduced lunch eligible, for sy 2024–2025; shares range from 71% at Laguna Vista to 95% at Art Haycox, but these figures do not by themselves explain differences in results.
