Mar Vista Elementary serves 464 students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Oxnard’s Ocean View district. In 2025–26, its students’ proficiency rates were below California’s in English language arts (ELA), math, and science, but the school performed better than its district in ELA and math. Its clearest local strength is math: Mar Vista ranked first among nine nearby K–5 schools, even though its 28% proficiency rate remained below the state’s 38%.

ELA is another relative strength: 33% of students were proficient, compared with 30% in the Ocean View district and 49% statewide; Mar Vista ranked second among nearby K–5 schools, whose average was 23%. In 2024–25, 81.5% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible; Parkview Elementary reported the same rate. The student–teacher ratio was 21.0 in 2024–25, close to the nearby-school average of 21.3. Chronic absenteeism was also comparatively low in 2025–26 at 12%, below the district’s 16% and state’s 18%; only Art Haycox Elementary had a lower rate among the nearby schools listed.
