Summary:

The Hueneme Elementary district has 11 schools—nine elementary schools and two middle schools—with grades ranging from K–5 at most elementary schools to K–8 at Sunkist Elementary; enrollment totals 6,678. In 2025–2026, the unweighted school averages were 28% proficient in English language arts (ELA), 21% in math, and 20% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38%, and 36%. Because schools serve different grade spans, these all-grades results are not perfectly like-for-like. The most important takeaway is that results vary sharply from school to school, and only one school is above the state in all three subjects.

Hollywood Beach Elementary stands out at the top: its 2025–2026 results were 51% in ELA, 48% in math, and 53% in science—about 2, 9, and 17 percentage points above the state, respectively. Its scores also led the next-highest school by 16 points in ELA, 20 in math, and 26 in science. At the other end, Art Haycox Elementary had the lowest results in all three subjects: 9% in ELA, 6% in math, and 4% in science. Those scores were 40, 33, and 32 points below the state. Among the two middle schools, E. O. Green Junior High led Charles Blackstock Junior High by 2 points in ELA and 6 in math, while Blackstock led science by 2 points.

Average results rose from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 in all three subjects, but the changes were mixed: math and science each improved by about 2 points, while ELA increased by less than a point. The gap to the state narrowed by about 1 point in math, stayed about the same in ELA, and widened by about 1 point in science. Individual trends offer more contrasts: Fred L. Williams Elementary science rose by 18 points, while Ansgar Larsen Elementary science fell by 8; E. O. Green Junior High improved in all three subjects, while Art Haycox Elementary declined in all three. SchoolDigger rankings rose from the 17th to the 23rd percentile for E. O. Green and from the 12th to the 25th for Fred L. Williams, while Hollywood Beach remained highest in the group but moved from the 69th to the 66th percentile. Student-teacher ratios averaged 20.5 students per teacher, ranging from 19.0 to 22.2. The reported free/reduced lunch eligible measure for 2024–2025 ranged from 39.1% to 95.0%, with an average of 80%; these figures provide context, not an explanation of school results.
