Sierra Vista Elementary

Summary:

Sierra Vista Elementary is a public elementary school in Perris, California, serving 886 students from kindergarten to 6th grade as part of the Val Verde Unified School District. The student population is predominantly Hispanic (79.46%), with significant representation from African American (10.61%) and White (4.63%) students.

While Sierra Vista Elementary has seen a concerning rise in chronic absenteeism, from 7.5% in 2017-2018 to 32.9% in 2022-2023, the school's academic performance is generally lower than nearby schools in the Val Verde Unified School District, such as May Ranch Elementary and Triple Crown Elementary. However, Sierra Vista Elementary outperforms some schools in the neighboring Perris Elementary School District, such as Perris Elementary and Sky View Elementary, which have even lower academic achievement and higher chronic absenteeism rates.

The school's high percentage of students (85.33%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch suggests a significant level of economic disadvantage, which may contribute to the lower academic performance and higher chronic absenteeism. While Sierra Vista Elementary performed relatively well in Spanish Reading/Language Arts, the school's underperformance in core subjects like English Language Arts and Mathematics indicates a need for targeted interventions and support to improve student learning and proficiency levels across all areas.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is incompetent. Now that Mr. Warren left, it is not the same. The new principal does not know how to effectively do her job. She makes excuses for disobedient kids that bully others and unprofessional staff members. She makes contradictory statements as well. No wonder this district has been investigated by the state for this incompetence. It clearly reflects in her leadership. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
