Summary:

ZIP code 92105 has 15 schools: 11 elementary, two middle and two high schools, most of them part of San Diego Unified. The latest test results are from 2025–26 for the elementary and middle schools, from 2024–25 for Health Sciences High and Middle College, and are unavailable for Trace. The central finding is that elementary-school averages trail state results in every subject: by 21 percentage points in ELA, 11 in math and 15 in science.

Rowan Elementary is the clearest elementary standout, leading the area with 53% in ELA, 54% in math and 38% in science—about 25, 27 and 17 points above the local elementary averages. It also exceeds state results by 4 points in ELA, 16 in math and 2 in science. At the other end, Carver Elementary has the lowest ELA and math results, at 15% and 14%; both are well below state results. Joyner Elementary has the lowest science score, 10%. Among middle schools, Wilson Middle leads in ELA and science, while Clark Middle narrowly leads in math; both are below state results in all three subjects.

Recent trends also distinguish schools: Rowan rose 7 points in ELA, 8 in math and 4 in science from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while Hamilton Elementary fell 9, 14 and 9 points, respectively. Across elementary schools, average results declined in ELA and math and were nearly flat in science, widening the gaps with the state. SchoolDigger ranks Rowan in the 70th percentile with four stars; Fay Elementary and Carver are each in the 5th percentile with zero stars. Other measures do not neatly predict scores: Oak Park Elementary and Fay have similar student–teacher ratios, 23.6 and 27.0, but very different results. The free/reduced lunch eligible measure for school year 2024–25 ranges from 79% at Rowan to 98% at Rosa Parks Elementary; these figures provide context, not an explanation of outcomes.
