Summary:
Ocean View has three middle schools serving grades 6–8, with enrollments from 724 to 817 students. In 2025–26, their average proficiency was 57% in English language arts (ELA), 49% in math and 50% in science, compared with California averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. The area’s school averages were ahead of the state by 7, 10 and 14 percentage points, respectively. But results vary widely by school: the gap between the highest and lowest school was 26 points in ELA, 29 in math and 28 in science. The most important takeaway is that the area’s above-state averages hide substantial differences between its schools.
Mesa View Middle stands out at the top, with 68% proficiency in ELA, 64% in math and 61% in science. It led the average of the other two schools by 17, 23 and 16 points in those subjects. At the other end, Vista View Middle had the lowest all-grades results: 42% in ELA, 35% in math and 33% in science—23, 21 and 26 points below the average of the other two schools. Marine View Middle fell between them, and was above state results in all three subjects. Its 47% math proficiency, however, was 4 points below the Ocean View district figure.
Results changed differently by school and subject from 2024–25 to 2025–26: Marine View’s ELA fell 4 points while its science rose 6; Mesa View’s science fell 3 points but remained the highest among the three. SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings also declined over the period from 94th to 90th percentile for Mesa View, 86th to 80th for Marine View and 66th to 52nd for Vista View. Context measures differ too: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible students made up 45% at Mesa View, 46% at Marine View and 83% at Vista View. Mesa View had the highest student-teacher ratio, 23.1, while Vista View had the lowest, 21 (both 2024–25). These figures describe school context, not the cause of score differences.
