Summary:
The nine schools in Magnolia Elementary all serve kindergarten through sixth grade, making their schoolwide results more directly comparable. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was about 48% in English language arts (ELA), 40% in math, and 31% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38%, and 36%. Math was the group’s relative strength, but science stands out as the biggest shared concern: seven of the nine schools were below the state, and the group average trailed by about 5 percentage points.
Results differ considerably from school to school. Dr. Jonas E. Salk led ELA at 56%, about 22 points above Mattie Lou Maxwell at 34%; Salk was about 7 points above the state, while Maxwell was about 15 points below. In math, Dr. Albert Schweitzer Leadership Academy led at 49%, about 20 points above Esther L. Walter at 29%. Walt Disney led science at 39%, while Walter had the lowest result at 13%—a 26-point difference. Six schools were above the state in each of ELA and math, but only two were above it in science.
Recent changes are mixed: the group’s ELA average slipped about 1 point from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, math rose about 1 point, and science was nearly flat as the state’s science result rose about 3 points. Maxwell improved in all three subjects, while Juliette Low School of the Arts had the largest science drop, about 15 points. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking rose for Salk, from 59 to 66, and fell for Disney, from 76 to 65; these rankings are separate from test-score changes. As context, all nine schools report the same measure, free/reduced lunch eligible, for 2024–2025: shares ranged from 66% at Dr. Peter Marshall to 87% at Robert M. Pyles STEM Academy. Strong results also appear at schools with higher reported shares, including Schweitzer and Salk, so the measure does not by itself explain school results.
