Summary:
The 27 schools in Hemet Unified serve students in and around Hemet, with 16 elementary schools, four middle schools, six high schools and one alternative school; grade spans include K–8 and 6–12. The simple, unweighted average across the schools was 37% in ELA, 21% in math and 21% in science in 2025–26, compared with California rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. The central finding is that results vary sharply from school to school, rather than describing one consistent districtwide experience.
Western Center Academy led all three subjects, with 87% proficiency in ELA, 62% in math and 81% in science. At the other end, Alessandro High had 15% in ELA, 7% in math and 6% in science. The highest-to-lowest gaps were 73 percentage points in ELA, 55 in math and 75 in science. Idyllwild was the next-highest school in ELA (63%) and in math and science (42% and 48%), showing that strong results are not limited to the top overall school.
Average results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26: about 2 percentage points in ELA, 2 in math and 4 in science, though gains were not universal. West Valley High gained 13 points in ELA, while Whittier Elementary fell 8; math and science also had school-level declines. SchoolDigger rated Western Center Academy in the 99th percentile with five stars, while Idyllwild was in the 65th percentile with three stars. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible rates ranged from 58% at Western Center Academy to 96% at Jacob Wiens Elementary; Idyllwild and Cottonwood also had high scores with rates of 72% and 74%. Western Center Academy’s student-teacher ratio was 25.2, compared with 15.1 at Alessandro High, so these figures alone do not sort schools by achievement. Because grade spans differ, All Grades comparisons are not fully like-for-like.
