Summary:

The Grossmont Union High list includes 14 high schools: 13 serve grades 9–12, and Grossmont Middle College High serves grades 11–12. In 2025–2026, the average of the 12 schools with reported scores was 50% in English language arts (ELA), 27% in math, and 33% in science, compared with California’s 49%, 38%, and 36%. School results vary far more than those averages suggest: ELA rates span 93 percentage points, so the district-wide picture is a poor guide to any one school.

Grossmont Middle College High is the clear academic standout, with 96% in ELA, 52% in math, and 81% in science—the highest reported rates in all three subjects. Its leads over the next-highest school are 28 points in ELA, 6 in math, and 35 in science; SchoolDigger ranks it in the 97th percentile statewide. Among schools serving grades 9–12, West Hills High leads ELA at 68%, while Santana High leads math and science at 46% in each. At the low end, Chaparral High has 3% in ELA and 0% in science, and IDEA Center has the lowest reported math rate, 2%; SchoolDigger places Chaparral in the 2nd percentile statewide.

From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the 12-school average was essentially unchanged in ELA, fell 2 points in math, and rose 4 points in science. The group moved further below California in math, while its science gap narrowed slightly. Outcomes beyond test scores can also help distinguish schools: West Hills combines strong results with a 94% graduation rate and 14% chronic absenteeism, below the state’s 18%; Grossmont Middle College High has a 95% graduation rate but 22% chronic absenteeism. Reported low-income figures use the same measure—free/reduced lunch eligible, sy 2024–2025—but do not follow a simple pattern with scores: the rate is 43% at West Hills and 27% at Grossmont Middle College High. MERIT Academy’s scores are suppressed, and no test scores are supplied for Elite Academy.
