Summary

Heritage High School is a large public high school serving about 1,570 students in grades 9-12 within the Evergreen School District (Clark) in Vancouver, WA, an area where the district itself ranks in the lower third statewide.

Academically, the school faces significant challenges, particularly in mathematics where only 16% of students are proficient, a rate much lower than the district and state averages; this places Heritage in the bottom quarter of Washington high schools, a pattern shared with other schools in its district like Evergreen High School and Legacy High School. However, a notable strength is its 91% graduation rate, which exceeds the state average and is a bright spot compared to some alternatives like Summit View High School.

Interesting comparisons with nearby schools reveal that performance isn't just about funding, as Heritage spends more per student than top-performing Hockinson High School in a different district. The most promising local model may be the specialized Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School, which excels academically within the same district, suggesting focused programs can lead to different outcomes.

Open Quote I graduated from Heritage High School in 2009, and while I and many of my peers were able to succeed in that environment, I watched many students fail.
This isn't entirely on the fault of the staff; as a current university student studying education, I can see with a better lens that a lot of things going on there are working. I had a lot of really good teachers that really cared about how well we were doing as learners and as people, and who valued the actual learning taking place in the classroom over test scores. That being said, there is approximately one teacher for every three that either doesn't care or isn't invested for some reason. I was lucky enough to receive very few of these, but a lot of my friends weren't, and I'd assume that many of my classmates did as well, because out of a freshman class of over 500, we graduated around 340. That's unacceptable.
However, the staff that does care is great, and the staff that participates in many of the school's extra curriculars is awesome. I participated in a large number of clubs and sports while I was there, and only once did I have an issue with a coach.
While I myself enjoyed my time in this high school, I'm not sure that I would recommend it to anyone else. Close Quote

Open Quote Hi and I go to HHS and I love it there. I only go there for half the day, but I love going there. My first year there was new and fun. The school has sprite. softmore year I had to move schools, because of where I lived, and I had to go to a brand new school. I didn't like it there, I didn't feel like I fit in. All the friend I made there where from HHS. Halfway through the year I moved and had to go back to HHS, I was so happy to be going back there. My junior year was the best, I want there for half the day, I went there in the morning, and in the afternoon I want to skill center, in the applied medical science 1, AMS1. This new year will be the best, my senor year. This year I will be in skill center agen, but not in AMS2, there was not enough room for everyone to be in AMS2, so I am in restaurant management and cooking. It will be the most funniest year ever, and the most hardest year ever, to get strait A's is the hardest, and I plan to get them. I cant what it start school agen.

LOTS OF LOVE
:) TH (: Close Quote
