Summary

Rainier Middle School is a public school serving 907 students in grades 6-8 within the Auburn School District, and it has experienced a notable decline in its statewide academic ranking over the past decade, now performing below both district and state averages.

Academically, the school's proficiency rates in core subjects are below average, with particular challenges in math. When compared to other middle schools in the area, Rainier sits in the lower performance tier, ranking below Mt Baker Middle School but above Olympic Middle School and Cascade Middle School within its own district. The data shows significant achievement gaps for several student subgroups, and the school's performance trajectory has been one of consistent decline, despite an increase in per-student spending.

However, the analysis reveals that some schools with similar student demographics, like Kilo Middle School in the Federal Way School District, achieve better outcomes. Rainier's historical data indicates it was once a much stronger performer, suggesting potential for improvement by examining practices at higher-performing peers like Mt. Baker Middle School, which has a similar size and resource profile.

Open Quote It'ss a good school with some nice teachers, but multiple times teachers have lied and kept perfectly capable students out of advanced classes, for no reason. Also, the school is rundown and needs better funding. Multiple classrooms have lights or ceiling tiles loose. However, the band program is good and the school typically does well/okay in sports.
