Summary

Captain Shreve High School is a public high school in Shreveport, Louisiana, serving 1,845 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Caddo Parish school district.

The school consistently outperforms the district and state averages on End-of-Course (EOC) exams, with higher proficiency rates in subjects like Algebra I, Geometry, English II, and Biology. Captain Shreve also maintains a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 79.6% to 89.4% in recent years, and a lower dropout rate than the district and state. The school's African American and Hispanic student subgroups perform particularly well, ranking among the top schools in Louisiana for those demographics.

While Captain Shreve's academic performance is strong, the school has struggled with high chronic absenteeism rates, an area of concern that the school and district should address. The school serves a diverse student population, with over 50% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. When compared to other high schools in the Shreveport area, such as Southwood High School, Booker T. Washington High, and Woodlawn Leadership Academy, Captain Shreve stands out as a relatively strong performer, likely influenced by the presence of high-performing magnet schools in the region.

Open Quote Our kid was kept out of school for 5 years. The 26th District Attorney couldn't find Bio-NOT-AMOM. After spending $29k we did. We have TOTAL custody.
Every day we read to the kid, and he reads to us. EVERY DAY we go other math.
It's been 1200 days from the first day we when we went over 3rd-grade grammar with him.
He Comes Home Saying, "I got no homework." {cring at his vocab--it's what he hears in school.}
YET, he's reading at a 4/5TH grade level? The World History class he's in: the teacher Mr. Law fills out the test sheets for the kids {our kid could not pronounace/spell/or difine any of the words on Mr. Law's page}. YET the KID MAKES an 'A'. at every turn, the Shreve let's us down. Close Quote
