Summary

Parkway High School in Bossier City, LA, serves 1,279 students in grades 8-12 within the Bossier Parish district, a top-performing district in the state, and is located in a community where about half of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Parkway stands out as a strong academic choice compared to many nearby schools. It significantly outperforms Bossier High School, which ranks in the bottom 15% of the state, with Parkway’s graduation rate (91.7%) far exceeding Bossier’s (78.3%). The school also surpasses most non-magnet schools in neighboring Caddo Parish, such as Southwood High School and Woodlawn High School, which rank in the bottom 20% of Louisiana. Parkway’s strongest area is English, with 78% proficiency in English I and 75% in English II, scores that are competitive with the highly-regarded C.E. Byrd High School. However, the school has seen a slight downward trend from a peak ranking in the 84th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 67th percentile in 2025-2026, with a graduation rate that has dipped from 94.6%.

A key concern is chronic absenteeism, which sits at 37.1%—better than crisis-level rates at schools like Booker T. Washington High (61.6%) but worse than the district average of 27.9%. This suggests the school effectively educates students who attend regularly, but a significant portion of the student body is disengaged. Parkway shows notable strengths with special education students (79th percentile) and multi-racial students (84th percentile), but struggles with low socio-economic status students, who rank in the 56th percentile. This challenge is likely linked to the high absenteeism rate, representing untapped potential for even higher achievement.

Open Quote Parkway has a wonderful JROTC program and athletic department. Had 2 son's who went there while stationed with the Air Force. One came in as a Freshmen and graduated 4 years later as class Valedictorian with a 4.0 and scoring 32 on ACT. The opportunity to learn is there if you take it. The soccer program was ignored at one time while everything went to football, however in the last two years (2016-17) with the introduction of a new soccer coach the program is getting more love from the school and is taking off by leaps and bounds. Lastly one could not ask for better role models and mentors then Lt Col Hadden (JROTC), Coach May (Football), and Coach Elliot (Soccer). Close Quote
