Summary

Youree Dr. Middle Advanced Placement Magnet School in Shreveport, LA, serves 992 students in grades 6-8 within the Caddo Parish school district, offering a magnet program that attracts families seeking a more rigorous academic environment in a community where a majority of students (62%) qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math, with 100% of students passing the Algebra I End-of-Course exam—far exceeding the district (56%) and state (65%) averages, and matching top performers like Elm Grove Middle School in Bossier Parish. It also excels in supporting English Language Learners, ranking in the 81st percentile statewide. However, the school's overall state ranking sits at the 35th percentile (2 stars), reflecting a "middle of the pack" status compared to other Caddo Parish middle schools. While it outperforms struggling schools like Fair Park Middle School and Linear/Northside Middle School, it lags behind the nearby Caddo Parish Middle Magnet School, which ranks in the 99th percentile and serves a wealthier population. A notable weakness is social studies, where only 47% of students are proficient, compared to 55% statewide.

Chronic absenteeism has more than doubled from 11.7% in 2021-2022 to 24.7% in 2024-2025, now exceeding the state average of 22.5% and likely contributing to the school's recent decline in ranking. While the magnet program successfully accelerates top math students, overall math proficiency (55%) remains below the state average (62%), suggesting the school still grapples with challenges common to high-poverty schools. For parents, Youree Dr. Middle offers a stable option with standout programs in advanced math and ELL support, but rising absenteeism and social studies gaps are areas to watch closely.

Open Quote I have great teachers, but I don't feel like the curriculum is advanced enough for me. This is a very easy school (I almost have all 100s on my report card.) So if you're looking for something more challenging, I would suggest you test for Caddo Middle Magnet. Overall it is a good school but there are a lot of cliques. Also I think that the kids here are kind of rude and immature. Another thing I don't like about this school is that in the winter, you are always cold (obviously) but this is an outdoors school so they can't heat the hallways when it gets cold. Also, I feel like I have to wake up too early. My friends and I usually get up at around 5am-6am, which studies have proven is way too early for kids to wake up and properly focus on their school work. So I don't really like this school but it's alright. Close Quote
