While part of the Bossier Parish school district, which is ranked 46 out of 118 districts in the state, Bossier High School has consistently struggled academically, ranking in the bottom third of Louisiana high schools with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The school's academic performance is significantly lower than nearby Parkway High School and Airline High School, also part of the Bossier Parish district. Bossier High School's proficiency rates on state assessments are well below the district and state averages, and its student subgroups, such as female, male, African American, Hispanic, and special education students, all rank in the bottom half or bottom third of their respective statewide rankings, indicating significant achievement gaps. Additionally, the school has experienced high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 20.9% to 52.1% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average.
