Open Quote My student was very excited to go to Silver Hills, it is a nice new building and appeared like a excellent school for learning and personal growth. However, my 6th grader had a very tough time with SHMS. Not with academics, nor so much with teachers or administrators, but with disruptive students.

His sixth grade experience is filled with stories of out-of-control students disrupting class, bullying other students, stealing school supplies and personal property and yes, defecating on the bathroom floor. Half the teachers don't appear to have the experience or ability to control the classroom. This makes it a real challenge to learn and focus on classwork. The counselor we consulted was absolutely unwilling to help us move our student to another core, as in my opinion she worthless and of no help whatsoever. The administrators counseled my student how to best deal with the situations, but didn't appear to do anything about the unruly students. Perhaps it is just a sad reflection on Adams 12 school district (five stars, I think not). They either do not have the ability or desire to expel or remove students who cannot behave themselves.

To be fair...
* Surprisingly, my student still managed to make honor roll.
* Not all cores appeared to be as bad as the one my student's.
* Speaking with many of other students who also attended SHMS, None of the students really liked it. Most said that grades 7 was better than 6 & 8 better than 7, but that was usually followed by "I hated 6th grade!".

Our student will be attending a different school for 7th grade. Close Quote

Open Quote Can you rate a school with negative stars??? This school doesn't seem to be committed to the educational future of their students at all. There is no accountability for the school, students or parents...Students passing with FAILING GRADES in core classes for the ENTIRE YEAR, students not expected to finish classwork, homework etc. Students can display poor behavior, have 300+ absences during the year, have 70+ missing assignments, and not have to worry about passing through to the next grade. Summer school not required... Very hard to communicate with some of the staff, even harder to communicate with staff of the District...This school does a horrible dis-service to it's students. Every issue a parent would want to avoid...this school has them. If you're hopeful that school will have a positive impact for your child's future...stay away from Silver Hills!!! You might want to check into the entire District...Many, many problems!!! Close Quote
