Summary

Cotton Creek Elementary School is a K-5 school in Westminster, CO, serving 455 students in the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district. The school earns 4 stars and ranks in the 74th percentile statewide (244th of 943 Colorado elementary schools). On the most recent CMAS tests, Cotton Creek students scored well above district and state averages: 57.8% proficient in ELA (vs. 42.3% district / 44.7% state), 51.3% in math (vs. 35.5% / 37.3%), and 51.8% in 5th grade science (vs. 35.6% / 36.1%). With a student-teacher ratio of 15.1 and a decade of consistent rankings between the 61st and 80th percentile, this is a reliably strong school.

Cotton Creek is an academic standout in its immediate neighborhood. Harris Park Elementary, less than a tenth of a mile away, shows just 20.2% ELA and 8.1% math proficiency, while Fairview Pk-8 (5.6% / 3.4%), Swanson Elementary (12.2% / 6.5%), and Josephine Hodgkins Leadership Academy (17.7% / 18.8%) all trail far behind. Only Hackberry Hill Elementary and Colorado STEM Academy are truly comparable, both landing just ahead of Cotton Creek in raw scores. Attendance is another strength: 20.9% chronic absenteeism vs. 32.2% for the district and far higher rates at most nearby schools.

Cotton Creek's results include some striking bright spots. Hispanic students rank in the 93rd percentile statewide (18th of 249 schools), and male students have consistently ranked in the upper quartile. Female students, however, have ranked lower — between the 43rd and 64th percentile in recent years — suggesting an area of focus. The school has also maintained strong overall scores even as its free/reduced lunch rate rose from 29.4% to 43.5%. One thing to monitor: the gifted/talented subgroup has declined dramatically from a 99th percentile ranking in 2018-2019 to the 7th percentile in 2025-2026, and 4th grade scores dipped below 3rd and 5th grade levels. Families should weigh the excellent overall record alongside these mixed subgroup patterns.

Open Quote Great school! Teachers are always willing to work with kids and parents,to make sure they are meeting their goals. Lots of fun activities outside the classroom, very well rounded. Great parent and community involvement. Principal is fantastic, which is why the teachers are happy here. PE teacher is very involved with getting the kids running! Great after school and summer program too. Close Quote

Open Quote We've watched the quality of this school slide downhill fast in the past 2 years. The staff was incompetent, and they were defensive and argumentative when we raised concerns about our child's needs not being met. They retaliated against us and our son when we refused to accept the unacceptable. Close Quote
