Summary

Trailblazer Elementary School is a public elementary school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving 222 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Colorado Springs School District No. 11, which is ranked 77 out of 115 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Trailblazer Elementary School has consistently underperformed compared to the district and state in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in CMAS/English Language Arts and CMAS/Math were significantly lower than the district and state averages. Additionally, the school has had high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 19.8% to 29.2% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average. Trailblazer also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 41.53% to 50% over the past few years, suggesting a higher proportion of students from low-income families compared to nearby schools.

When comparing Trailblazer Elementary School to the nearby Chipeta Elementary School, which is less than a mile away, it becomes evident that Trailblazer is underperforming academically, with Chipeta consistently outperforming Trailblazer in standardized test scores. The school's performance for specific student subgroups, such as female and male students, is also concerning, with the school's rankings for these subgroups being lower than the overall school rankings, indicating potential equity issues. While the high rates of chronic absenteeism at Trailblazer are not unique to the school, as several nearby schools in the Colorado Springs School District also have similar or higher rates, it suggests a broader challenge within the district that may require targeted interventions.

Open Quote The school's academics are are suffering due to this Next Gen crap. I am having to teach my kids at home to keep them up to speed all the time. The principal cares about image and appearances over real education. Kids are sitting in front of screens far too much. Good teachers are leaving to get away from the Next Gen model. There are some good things here, yes, but the negatives are starting to outweigh the good and I will be choicing my kids out of this school next year to a place where education matters more than image. Open Quote My children love this school, I love this school. They are VERY hands on with any special attention that my kids need and keep me in the loop. I was VERY surprised that the ratings aren't all 5 stars. Close Quote
