Summary:

Lincoln County School District #1 has three schools serving grades K–12 across its campuses in Lincoln County, Wyoming: Canyon Elementary School (K–6), Kemmerer Junior Senior High School (7–12), and New Frontier High School (7–12). Together, they enroll 637 students, though New Frontier is much smaller, with 18. The clearest overall concern is that the latest results at Canyon and Kemmerer are below matching Wyoming averages in math across every listed grade, with especially large gaps in some grades.

Each of the two larger schools has an ELA bright spot: Kemmerer Junior Senior High School’s 9th graders scored 60.0%, 4.4 points above the state, while Canyon Elementary School’s 6th graders were 2.4 points above. The sharpest current shortfalls are in math: Canyon 4th grade was 42.6%, 20 points below Wyoming, and Kemmerer 8th grade was 35.2%, 18.7 points below. Kemmerer also had notable science gaps in grades 8 and 10, each more than 15 points below state results. Graduation is a strength at Kemmerer: its 92.1% rate was 9 points above the state; New Frontier’s 83.3% was close to the state rate. New Frontier’s current school-level test scores are unavailable, but in 2024–2025 its 10th-grade math and science results were 14.9 and 13.1 points below Kemmerer’s.

Results have weakened relative to the state since 2024–2025: Canyon’s average math position shifted from 1.5 points above to 9.5 below, while Kemmerer’s shifted from roughly even to 8.2 below; both schools also moved from above-state to below-state averages in ELA. SchoolDigger rankings likewise declined: Canyon is now 105th of 148 (29th percentile, 2 stars) and Kemmerer 54th of 81 (33rd percentile, 2 stars); New Frontier’s latest listed ranking is 69th of 83 (17th percentile, 1 star) for 2024–2025. New Frontier has the lowest student–teacher ratio (9.0) and highest reported spending ($27,364 per student), alongside the highest free/reduced-lunch eligibility share (35.7%, versus 21.9% at Canyon and 18.6% at Kemmerer); these are contextual differences, not explanations for outcomes. Grade spans and New Frontier’s small enrollment limit direct comparisons across all three schools.
