Summary:

Lincoln County School District #2 includes nine schools—three elementary, three middle and three high schools—with 2,924 students across schools serving a range of grades, broadly from elementary through high school. The schools are in Lincoln County, Wyoming, and enrollment ranges from 72 students at Swift Creek High School to 846 at Star Valley High School. In 2025–2026, 44 of 50 reported school-grade-subject results were above the matching state result, but the district’s most important overall finding is that strong results at many schools coexist with a few substantial grade-level weaknesses.

Cokeville Elementary led the reported results in grades 3–6 across ELA and math, with several scores at least 95%; it also had 84.6% proficiency in grade 4 science. Star Valley Middle School stood out in grades 7–8 ELA and math, with results from 68.4% to 76.1%. Among high schools, Cokeville High School posted 72.2% in grade 10 ELA and 61.1% in math, compared with 35% and 10% at Swift Creek—a gap of 37.2 and 51.1 percentage points. Swift Creek was also below state results in all three grade 10 subjects. SchoolDigger ranked Star Valley Middle 4th of 76 statewide and Cokeville Elementary 4th of 148, while Swift Creek ranked 73rd of 81.

Across 40 exact comparisons between the two school years, the average school-to-state proficiency gap narrowed by about 1.4 percentage points, but school trends differed: the gap widened for Cokeville High and Cokeville Elementary, while it narrowed for several others, including Osmond and Etna. The contrast between Osmond Elementary and Etna Elementary may help families compare similar grade spans: Osmond led Etna by 28.5 points in grade 5 ELA, despite similar 2024–2025 free/reduced-lunch rates (32.4% and 33.9%) and a higher student-teacher ratio (14.7 versus 11.5). Swift Creek had the district’s lowest ratio, 10.2, while Star Valley High had the highest, 16.4; these are descriptive differences, not explanations for achievement.
