Walker Elementary has shown fluctuating academic performance over the years, with its statewide ranking ranging from 176 (2016-2017) to 668 (2024-2025) out of over 1,000 Wisconsin elementary schools. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are generally higher than the district average, but lower than the state average. For example, in 3rd grade ELA, Walker Elementary's proficiency rate is 45.1% compared to the district's 33.66% and the state's 52.14%. The school has performed particularly well in serving its African American and Hispanic student populations, ranking in the top 20% and top 40% of Wisconsin elementary schools, respectively, in recent years.

Compared to nearby schools, Walker Elementary performs at a similar or slightly higher level, but it is significantly outperformed by schools in the Wauwatosa School District, the New Berlin School District, and the Elmbrook School District, which have higher academic achievement and lower rates of chronic absenteeism and free/reduced lunch. The higher spending per student and student-teacher ratio at Walker Elementary may indicate a need to evaluate the effectiveness of resource allocation and teaching practices to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote I have two boys that are in third grade and k5 and have attended since k4. The teachers are outstanding. I truly am impressed at their dedication and ingenuity. The classroom atmosphere allows the kids freedom of movement which eliminates boredom. It also allows the teachers to deal with the tiny percentage of morons that shouldn't be there in the first place with minor disruption to the rest of the class. (Yeah I said it. Undisciplined brats whose parents spend more time admiring and comparing their tattoos than parenting their children) The staff are trying new teaching techniques and technologies and getting results. School officials from around the world visit the school constantly to see just what really is going on there. The teachers for specials, music gym and art are well accomplished and inventive. I'm jealous when I hear of what they got to do for specials that day. My boys are proud of themselves and proud of their school. I just wish more of the parents felt the same way, instead of complaining that their children are not delivered to them like a pizza after release. Get off your lazy butt and go hug your kids, you haven't seen them all day! Ah West Allis Close Quote
