Summary

Walworth Elementary is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Walworth, Wisconsin, with an enrollment of 429 students. The school faces several key challenges, including below-average academic performance, high chronic absenteeism and dropout rates, and a high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds.

Walworth Elementary's academic performance, as measured by the Forward Exam, is generally below the state average across grade levels and subject areas. The school's performance has been relatively stagnant over the past few years, with its statewide ranking fluctuating between 658 and 854 out of over 1,000 Wisconsin elementary schools. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic students and English Language Learners, who rank in the bottom quarter or third of Wisconsin elementary schools.

Walworth Elementary also has higher-than-average chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 15.3% to 19.5% in recent years, compared to the state average. The school's dropout rate is also higher-than-average, reaching 1.3% in some years, while the state average is typically lower. Despite having higher-than-average spending per student and a relatively low student-teacher ratio, Walworth Elementary's academic performance remains below the state average, indicating that factors beyond just funding and staffing may be contributing to the school's challenges. Compared to nearby schools, such as Eastview Elementary, Central-Denison Elementary, and Woods Elementary, which are part of the higher-performing Lake Geneva J1 and Geneva J4 school districts, Walworth Elementary's academic performance is generally lower.

Open Quote A terrible school for older middle school students. Focus is all on the little kids. Teachers at the middle school level teach with no imagination. The technology is old. There is issues with teacher morale within the building toward the superintendent and I'm not sure a small school like Walworth has to have both a full time superintendent and a principal. The superintendent spends an hour each day supervising student eating in the cafeteria. Sports programs are run like intramural programs. There are much better schools to attend in Wisconsin.
