Suring High

Suring High is a small, rural public high school serving grades 9–12 in Suring, Wisconsin, in Oconto County, with about 118 students and part of the Suring Public School District.

For 2025–2026, the school ranks 431st of 533 ranked Wisconsin high schools (19th percentile, 1 star), and the district ranks 401st of 432 (7th percentile, 0 stars). The school has not earned more than 2 stars in a decade, and its long-term rank has drifted downward from the 41st–58th percentile range in the early 2010s. It spends $23,241 per student, the highest in its comparison group and about 43% more than Oconto Falls High, yet it ranks below Coleman High (76th percentile), Lena High (51st), Bonduel High (46th), and Oconto Falls High (44th). Classes are among the smallest in the region at 9.6 students per teacher, and 50.9% of students are economically disadvantaged—more than double Bonduel High.

Chronic absenteeism is the sharpest concern: 28.9%, higher than every nearby school except Menominee Nation High School, roughly seven times Gillett High, and it has risen from 10.9% to 28.9% over five years. The dropout rate is 3.9%, highest in the group, even though the graduation rate is 96.7%, above the state. In 10th-grade tests, Social Studies proficiency is 52.4%, second only to Coleman High and above the state, but Math (19.5%), ELA (31.7%), and Science (24.4%) are below most peers. Students with disabilities are relatively better served (39th percentile, 2 stars) than the school overall, while economically disadvantaged students rank at the 14th percentile. The pattern suggests that attending students can do reasonably well, but a large and growing share are disengaged, making absenteeism and engagement the key issue to watch.
