Summary

Prairie View Elementary is a PK–5 school in the Holmen School District in Holmen, Wisconsin, a community just north of La Crosse that parents often compare with nearby Onalaska and Trempealeau schools. With 466 students, it is the largest elementary school in its district and nearly as large as Eagle Bluff Elementary (471) in the neighboring Onalaska School District. It is also the biggest of its same-district peers: Sand Lake Elementary (363), Viking Elementary (355), and Evergreen Elementary (317).

Academically, Prairie View ranks 405 of 1,039 elementary schools statewide for 2025–2026 — the 61st percentile, a 3-star result that is above the state median. That said, it has slipped from earlier peaks: the school was in the 97th percentile in 2017–2018 and the 93rd in 2018–2019. Current test results are above state averages in most areas. Grade-5 math (62.67%) is a standout, above both district and state, while grade-4 math (51.76%) is slightly below the state rate. Grade-4 social studies (75.29%) is the strongest among Holmen's elementary schools and above district and state.
