Summary

Dry Creek Elementary is a highly-regarded, 4-star public school serving about 390 students from Pre-K through 6th grade in the Port Angeles School District, known for its remarkable academic turnaround and exceptional support for students.

The school stands out for its strong and improving academic performance, particularly in science where 75% of students are proficient, significantly outpacing both the district and state averages. It consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Washington, having climbed from the 21st to the 73rd percentile since 2019. A key strength is the "Dry Creek Effect"—the school achieves these excellent results while serving a substantial population of economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 89th percentile statewide for supporting this group. This performance is notable when compared to some neighboring schools like Roosevelt Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary, which have similar demographics but lower proficiency rates.

While Dry Creek is a district leader alongside Hamilton Elementary, it does face specific challenges, including a need to better support its special education students and to address a consistent performance gap where female students outperform males. Overall, Dry Creek represents a compelling success story, demonstrating that focused strategies and a strong school culture can lead to outstanding and cost-effective outcomes for all students.

Open Quote My Family and I love this school! My daughter has made tremendous improvements just from transferring across town. her test scores have jumped in all subjects, the teachers and staff all know very well how to connect with the students so they may learn very easily. The community is very involved and the school has many after school and evening events to share education and fun with the families and include the surrounding members. All the staff members know all the students by name and know them well enough to know who they are, where they should be and who or how they get home.I feel my daughter is very safe an well taken care of at this school. I am very sad to have moved out of state and leave this great family of a school. Close Quote

Open Quote School is newer and large, teachers are awesome and have small class sizes, PTO and community are very involved. The area the school is located in is close to town, but safely tucked away in a great area. The school is especially receptive to every single students specific needs. No complaints whatsoever. This from a parent of a girl with an extreme peanut allergy, which is very difficult to deal with on a large scale. Every person in this school was very understanding and accommodating in helping keep my daughter safe at school. THIS SCHOOL IS 100% PEANUT FREE! Close Quote
