Summary

Franklin Elementary is a public PK-6 school serving 318 students in the Port Angeles School District, consistently performing as a solid, mid-tier school within its district and showing particular strength in supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Academically, Franklin outperforms both district and state averages in English and Math, with its 6th graders excelling in reading. However, the school faces a notable challenge with Science scores, which are below average, and performance varies significantly between grade levels. An interesting finding is the school's "bounce-back" ability; after a dip in performance a few years ago, it has recovered to a 3-star rating, ranking in the top 66% of elementary schools statewide. Within the Port Angeles School District, Franklin sits in the middle of the performance hierarchy, outperforming nearby Roosevelt Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary but trailing higher-performing schools like Hamilton Elementary and Dry Creek Elementary.

Key areas for parents to note include a pronounced performance gap between female and male students and the school's exceptional effectiveness with students from low-income families, where it ranks in the top 81% statewide. This strength suggests the school has successful support systems in place for these learners. For families, Franklin represents a school with clear strengths to build upon and specific areas, like Science instruction and support for boys, where focused improvement could lead to even better outcomes for all students.
