Port Angeles High School is a public grades 9–12 school serving 974 students in Port Angeles, a community on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, within the Port Angeles School District. It is an above-average Washington high school, ranking 101st of 396 schools and at the 74th percentile statewide for 2025–26, with a four-star rating. The school is larger than nearby Sequim Senior High, which enrolls 804 students, and much larger than Lincoln High School, which enrolls 59.

Academically, the school’s biggest strength is English Language Arts: 73.58% of students were proficient in 2025–26, well above both the district’s 55.01% and Washington’s 52.81%. Science was also solid at 56.25%, exceeding the state rate of 50.95%. Mathematics is the clearest weakness, with only 34.42% proficiency compared with 43.11% statewide; results have remained in the mid-30% range for four years. Compared with Sequim Senior High, Port Angeles had notably stronger ELA and slightly stronger science results, but slightly weaker math performance.

Graduation remains above the state average, at 85.5% in 2024–25, but it fell from 90.5% the prior year. The dropout rate rose to 10.8%, slightly above Washington’s 9.8%, making student completion an important area to watch. The school has been particularly effective for students from low-income households, whose subgroup ranked in the 75th percentile statewide, while outcomes for students receiving special education services remained below the state midpoint. Overall, Port Angeles offers a strong literacy program and generally favorable academic profile, but families may want to look closely at math support, graduation trends, and services for students with additional learning needs.

Open Quote Despite being a small city school, PAHS offers a surprisingly large, high quality selection of honors, AP, Running Start and "college in high school" offerings to serve college-bound students, as well as a full range of traditional shop and vocational courses for those who are headed for job preparation training.

Every year the school has students accepted to highly competitive colleges, and several National Merit scholars.

Students also compete at the national level for metalworking, woodworking, and pre-med studies competitions.

Additionally the district has a full music program, offering five bands, four orchestras and four choirs, plus an AP Music Theory course. Nearly half of all students take part in at least one music course. Close Quote
