Henderson Bay Alt High School is a small alternative high school in Gig Harbor, Washington, serving grades 9–12 and 139 students within the generally high-performing Peninsula School District. Its alternative mission and small enrollment make it different from nearby comprehensive schools such as Gig Harbor High and Peninsula High School, so year-to-year results can shift noticeably as the student population changes.

The school’s latest ranking is 245th of 396 Washington schools, placing it in the 38th percentile and earning two stars. That is below Gig Harbor High and Peninsula High, but Henderson Bay has improved substantially from single-digit percentile rankings in the mid-2010s. In 2024–25, 81.1% of students graduated, compared with 88.7% districtwide and 82.6% statewide. It was great at first till some of the current staff showed there true colors. It made me feel ashamed to be apart of a false adverstising school of some what called choice. In some ways it is, yet the students with a court order to be there is not a choice. Parents who force there kids to be there is not a choice. They say it's ur choice, guess what that's not always true. Some of the staff that's been here since 2014 when I started sadly were not that pleasant to have as a teacher, I hate to say. During my junior year was probably the worst year ever at HBHS. My English teacher was not at her best that year. I went to the principle as well as other students nothing changed to help us have a better understanding with eachother, it was a nightmare. When things wern't getting better I decided to transfer to ghhs for senior year. I'm excited to start a new year and I hope to have a better experience with teachers. High school isn't all about the education and grades. It's also the relationships and friendships you build with one another during those 4 years. Every student should be able to feel excited, not feel so down when they have to deal with that teacher or staff member that makes there high school experience a living hell. Close Quote
