Summary

Meadows Elementary is a large public elementary school serving 765 students from Pre-K through 5th grade in Lacey, Washington, operating within the North Thurston Public Schools district.

Academically, Meadows Elementary consistently outperforms both its district and the state, particularly in mathematics, where over half of its students are proficient. The school shows notable strengths in teaching 3rd grade math and 4th grade English Language Arts. It serves a diverse student body effectively, with historically strong results for students from military families and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. However, the school faces a significant challenge in supporting its special education students, and its overall state ranking has seen a gradual decline in recent years.

Interesting comparisons to nearby schools reveal that Meadows achieves its solid academic outcomes with mid-level per-student spending, while some neighboring schools like Pleasant Glade Elementary and Lydia Hawk Elementary spend more per student but rank lower. Its closest geographic schools, Lydia Hawk Elementary and Seven Oaks Elementary, also rank significantly lower, suggesting school-specific practices are key drivers of its performance.

Open Quote Meadows is an excellent school with a dedicated, experienced, and caring staff. The principal, who spent many successful years as a teacher within the North Thurston School District before becoming principal at Meadows, is motivated by what's best for students. From her and the assistant principal down through the counselor and teachers, each individual member of this staff cares for kids with the primary focus being safety and learning. There are challenges at any school, and Meadows is not immune to behavioral, social and academic challenges but the families and educators rise to meet these challenges head on. This school is a fantastic elementary school. My experience at Meadows Elementary School has been extremely positive. It's great to be a part of the Meadows family! Close Quote
