As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote For context, our son was enrolled at pleasant glade for fourth grade and is 10 years old. If you're sending your child here you MUST monitor everything that will be taught to your child here. Thankfully the pandemic allowed me to hear all lessons being taught. Without this virtual learning environment, our family never would have known they would be teaching sex education to our 10-year-old. Furthermore, the school uses young students to complete surveys that are beyond their comprehension and inappropriate for their age group.

The first troubling incident our family encountered was overhearing frustration from my son. The teacher was walking the students through a 60+ question survey. My son stated, "I'm so frustrated, I have no idea what this stuff means." I sat and listened to the teacher state the questions out loud. Multiple students had issues and voiced their same frustration. The teacher instructed the students to "choose any answer even if you don't understand." This was my first instinct that this survey was questionable for their age group. If the school is instructing the students to take a survey shouldn't the students understand what they are being asked? Otherwise doesn't that just invalidate the results of the survey? However, I continued to listen and the next question the teacher went over made the situation worse. The teacher stated the next question, "This school has a welcoming environment that embraces the diversity of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Religion, Sexual orientation." She actually repeated, "Sexual orientation" multiple times. I let my son know that he won't be finishing the survey and had him step out of the room. A simple solution to this issue would have been to send the survey home to parents FIRST to decide if they would allow their child to complete it. My guess is, most parents would have said no. I discussed my concerns with his teacher after the incident and she agreed that the survey was completely inappropriate and advised me to speak to the district.

The second incident occurred in art class. The teacher was discussing artists and then proceeded to show a video in class that gave the children a lesson on sexual orientations. Again, I had my son leave. When I spoke to the teacher she stated they never used the word "sexual orientation." However, the video was discussing different types of sexual orientations. This school completely oversteps parental boundaries! Needless to say, we have unenrolled our son. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
