Summary

Park Ridge Elementary is a K–5 school in Stafford, Virginia, serving 908 students in the Stafford County Public Schools district, with 33.7% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch and a student-teacher ratio of 16.2. The school currently ranks in the 46th percentile among Virginia elementary schools (2 stars), placing it solidly in the middle of the state, and has posted two consecutive years of improvement after dipping to the 33rd percentile in 2023–24.

Park Ridge's test scores are above district averages in nearly every subject, with standout results in 4th-grade math (77.9% proficient) and 4th-grade reading (78.5%). The school also shines in Virginia Studies, where 78.3% of 4th-graders are proficient—well above the state average and among the best in the area. Chronic absenteeism is a bright spot at just 11.5%, well below the district's 17.5% rate. The school also shows notable strength in serving historically underserved populations, ranking in the 74th percentile for African American students and the 65th percentile for English learners, with both groups showing steady improvement over the past three years. Nearby Winding Creek Elementary and Margaret Brent Elementary rank higher overall, but Park Ridge outperforms Kate Waller Barrett Elementary and Anne E. Moncure Elementary, both of which sit at the 16th percentile.

The most pressing concerns are 5th-grade reading (63.0% proficient) and 5th-grade science (58.1%), both trailing state averages by roughly 10 percentage points. Performance for disabled students (11th percentile), military-connected students (8th percentile), and White students (25th percentile) lags considerably—especially notable given the school's proximity to Quantico. Park Ridge spends $8,826 per student, less than several peers, yet achieves solid mid-pack results, suggesting efficient use of resources. With its recent upward trajectory and clear areas of focus, the school appears poised to continue improving. Addressing upper-grade literacy and science, while deepening support for military-connected and disabled learners, will be key to reaching the next level.

Open Quote Very disappointed in Park Ridge Elementary. We have since moved to a new school district, and our children are behind academically and working to catch up. The students frequently have "indoor recess" and do not get adequate opportunities for physical activity. Students are ignored by lunchroom staff, who are looking at their phones. I believe most of the teachers are sufficiently trained and well intentioned, but my interactions with the principle were defensive and unproductive. Communication from teachers and administrators was lacking. Important school policies were changed without informing parents. I believe homework was appropriate and they made good use of educational apps in math and reading. If your child is quiet and well behaved, they will most likely be ignored. If your child is deemed to have a "behavior issue", the school has no plan for consistent and appropriate discipline. These were my experiences. I sincerely hope that things change for the better. If you have a choice, I would not recommend sending your children to Park Ridge. Close Quote
