Summary

London Towne Elementary is a PK-6 school in Centreville, Virginia, serving 658 students as part of Fairfax County Public Schools. In 2025-2026, the school ranked 741st out of 1,111 Virginia elementary schools, placing it in the 33rd percentile with a 2-star rating — an improvement from 844th in 2024-2025 and 883rd in 2023-2024. About 69% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, making London Towne one of the highest-poverty elementary schools in the immediate Centreville area.

The school's most striking academic pattern is a 5th-grade drop-off. In 2025-2026, 5th-grade math proficiency was 49.2% versus 66.6% district-wide, and 5th-grade reading was 53.9% versus 76.5% district-wide, while 3rd- and 4th-grade scores sit much closer to district averages. Attendance is also a concern: 14.0% of students were chronically absent in 2024-2025 — the highest rate among nearby schools, though down sharply from 23.2% two years earlier. Compared to neighbors within 3.5 miles, London Towne ranks 9th out of 11 schools, well behind Poplar Tree Elementary, Union Mill Elementary, and Powell Elementary, but ahead of Yorkshire Elementary and Centre Ridge Elementary.

The encouraging news is that the school is improving. Its state rank climbed from 883rd to 741st in two years, and gains are visible across several student groups, including English learners and students with disabilities. London Towne also outperforms its socioeconomically similar neighbors, Centre Ridge and Yorkshire, despite all three serving similar poverty levels. Notably, the school spends more per student ($14,358) and has a lower student-teacher ratio (13.2) than several higher-performing nearby schools, so resources aren't the problem. The real work is concentrating support on the specific grades and students where gaps are largest.

Open Quote We love London Towne Elementary. There is always this wonderful warm, friendly feeling when you walk into the building. Staff really seem to care about each student. Teacher to student ratio is low. They have lots of resources for both the excelling and the struggling students. The teachers and students are diverse. Just a wonderful all round school.
