Summary

Robious Elementary is a public school in Midlothian, VA, serving 660 students in grades PK–5 as part of Chesterfield County Public Schools. The school is a strong, consistently above-average performer, ranking in the 76th percentile of Virginia elementary schools in 2025–26 with a 4-star rating. Test scores are well above district and state averages in every subject, with particular strengths in 4th grade Virginia Studies (88.6% proficient vs. 69% district) and 5th grade science (83.7% vs. 71.2% district). Historically, Robious earned 5-star ratings before the pandemic and has stabilized at a solid 4-star level in recent years.

Within its immediate area, Robious sits in an upper-middle tier. The top-tier local schools – W.W. Gordon Elementary, J.B. Watkins Elementary, and Bettie Weaver Elementary – all hold 5-star ratings and rank higher, while Greenfield Elementary edges out Robious by a small margin. Schools like Bon Air Elementary, Crestwood Elementary, Reams Road Elementary, and A.M. Davis Elementary rank substantially lower. Robious also stands out for its low chronic absenteeism rate of 9.9%, well below the district's 16.1%, and its efficient spending of $7,569 per student – less than most nearby schools despite strong outcomes.

The school's most pressing challenge is ensuring consistent outcomes across all student groups. In 2025–26, the school's White students performed in the 88th percentile statewide, while African American and Hispanic students ranked in the 43rd percentile and low-income students in the 35th percentile. These gaps have widened in recent years, particularly for Hispanic and low-income students. For families, this means Robious offers a strong overall education with excellent attendance, but not all student groups are experiencing equal outcomes. Closing these gaps would help Robious return to its former 5-star status and make its success more inclusive.

Open Quote Robious Elementary is a wonderful school. The teacher's are terrific educators that genuinely care about the children. Opportunities for parent involvement both in and out of the classroom are plentiful and the teachers and the administration are truly appreciative to the parents for what they add to the school. The school is an Expeditionary Learning School which allows the children to investigate a subject in-depth and honestly learn the material not just memorize facts for a test. In addition, the children are expected to show kindness and generosity towards each other and I have been amazed at the caring environment that my kids get to be a part of every day. We will probably never move from our house for fear of not finding as good of a school for our children. Close Quote
