Washington-Liberty High is the largest comprehensive high school in Arlington County Public Schools, enrolling 3,044 students in grades 9–12 in Arlington, VA. It is the middle-performing traditional high school in this highly regarded district, ranking 158th of 331 Virginia high schools—behind Yorktown High but slightly ahead of Wakefield High. The school graduates about 93.1% of students, just above state and district averages, but its 5.1% dropout rate and 15.7% chronic absenteeism rate are both higher than Yorktown's (2.1% and 11.2%, respectively).

The school has genuine strengths. In 11th-grade Writing, 91% of students are proficient, and reading scores have consistently landed in the 85–92% range. Advanced 9th-grade math is exceptional, with 98% proficiency in Algebra II and 95.7% in Geometry. I enrolled my learning differences high schooler (w/an IEP) in Washington-Liberty upon moving to Arlington, given what appeared to be an otherwise good school rating. Sadly, our now 3 year experience has reflected anything but. There are well intended staff and policies in place, but the reality is surface level actions and what I can only describe as an ineffective box checking adherence to bureaucratic processes, leaving a bright (although different) child to struggle to the point of wanting to drop off. If your child is neurotypical, perhaps the school is good, but if your child requires an IEP or creative approaches to learning I would strongly advise against enrollment in Washington-Liberty High School.
